Trek to Gangotri and Kedarnath

The Garhwal Himalayas are revered in Hindu mythology and religion as the "Abode of the Gods." The Ganges River rises in this inaccessible mountain, at the sacred sanctuary of Gangotri, and flows down to the lowlands in a furious torrent. Few trekkers use this route, which leads to one of the most significant Hindu spiritual sites, where you will encounter a unique aura of religious fervour.

The journey begins at Kedarnath, where hundreds of pilgrims travel from all across India, and goes along the sacred Bhagirathi river, then through lush woods and grassy fields to Lata. It is a 5-hour journey from there to Gangotri, where the second portion of the trek begins. You will see half-naked sadhus in the lotus posture meditating on the bank of the gushing stream flowing from the glacier near Gaumukh, close to the Ganges' Source. Tapovan is a green region with several brooks surrounded by snowy hills further above.

It is a round-trip journey that begins at Kedarnath and proceeds west through lush woods and grassy regions, following the sacred Bhagirathi river. The northern section of the route will provide breathtaking vistas of various high altitude lakes.
